Welcome to Our Blog

This summer -- from July 19 until August 26 -- six of us will travel to Europe to visit a group of eight au pairs and their families, each of whom lived with our family for one year from 2001 until 2009. Our travelers include Pam, her three children -- Hannah (12), Daniel (9), and Adam (8), Pam's mother, Peg, and mother-in-law, Terry.

We begin our trip in Lucerne, Switzerland and end in Paris, France. In between, we'll be visiting Venice, northern Germany, and Sweden. I hope that by the end, you will have read posts by many of us -- giving you a view of our trip from a variety of perspectives. Please follow us as we travel and discover....

Rainy Day

Friday July 23rd
Today we had a well needed day of rest. A steady rain was the perfect backdrop for "Apples to Apples" played by Terry, the kids and the newly arrived Kathi who took a train from Austria this morning to spend the weekend with us.

The kids talk to Kathi on Skype periodically and therefore she has remained a part of their lives thanks to modern technology. It was as if she never left Pam's house.

Pam and i did some work on the computer for a few hours while Nonna, Hannah and Kathi went looking for nail polish and a few other things. The nail polish will have to wait since it was over $15 dollars a bottle. We also caught up on some laundry after some instruction from Kathi on the use of the European washer and dryer in the home. Why can't our country come up with machines equal to these very efficient marvels?

Mark and Tom came home from work later in the day, once again laden with the ingredients for a feast.

Tonight we had a traditional Swiss Raclette dinner. Dan, Adam and Hannah did a great job cooking our meats, fishes and vegetables to eat with various sauces.

Pilatus appeared just in time for dinner on this wonderful rainy day.

Thanks for the post, Peg. It is really cool to hear about the trip from various points of view. Also cool to SEE Kahti, Sara, etc whom I remember too.

The feast at Mark and Tom's house looks delic. Probably as tasty as it is beautiful.

Take care...and enjoy your European romp!

Love,
Amy
